Well Christmas is over and we have been busy non-stop. There have been packed movies all week. Christmas day was a mess, the rest of the week wasn't much better. There have been more than more than 3000 people a day.
Problems, not very many. This is a nice break. There were a few loud people last night but no one to throw out. Most people have been nice and patient dealing with the lines. All the employees have busted their butts to work as hard as possible.
To be honest, I think this much work is hard on a person. You never get a break. There is no time to insure people are enjoying their movies and closing is taking forever.
Until next time.....

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to all. It has been a crazy weekend. New movies like I Am Legend, National Treasure 2, Alvin & the Chipmunks have been keeping us on our toes. It was so busy with families that we didn't have too many problems. The usual stuff, (feet on seats, cell phones on), occurred. Yet it seemed to be and endless amount of cheerful folks. I enjoyed greeting about 4,000 of them. Time flew by and it was smooth sailing.
For Christmas, we are getting new movies. Starting Christmas Day are: Aliens vs. Predator 2, Waterhorse, and Great Debaters. Hope to see you there.
May all of you have a great Christmas and New Years. Don't forget about those not here with us, families out of town, soldiers far away, loved ones in hospitals, etc. Until next time....See ya at the movies!

Let is snow
So, remember I'm in a Midwest town, it's snowed and iced all day. People are crazy. I know, its hard to believe, but true. There was an inch of ice on the roads, snow falling in large flakes, and really cold wind. Did this keep people indoors? Hell no!!!! They all came out. I think when there are weather alerts on the radio or television; people think it's the time to go out. All you can do is shake your head in amazement. It took about 30 minutes to scrape off the inch of ice from my car. I was freezing too. I hope tomorrow isn't the same way. I don't want to work if it is. Hope everyone is safe and warm.

I Am Manager!
Wow is the only word that can describe this night. We were so busy that it was impossible to keep up. People were coming in to see Alvin and the Chipmunks and I Am Legend. There were sold out shows and popcorn everywhere. We were understaffed for all the business, yet, we made it through.
Of course, we had our problems too. I worked upstairs running the projectors. I watched through the portal most of the time. Things looked good until I went downstairs to help close. One of the managers was watching a movie and she told some girls to sit down and not talk so loudly. They got crappy with her and she told them that she was a manager and they needed to quite down. Of course they weren't even watching that movie, they bought tickets to something else, they were just talking to some guy in there. They left and then came back with about 5 males. They tried to sit by the manager and talk of beating her up was heard. The floor manager for the night was notified and kicked the girls out. The police officer insured that they left the building.
Then there were these 2 boys left in the lobby. They came with their cousin. They didn't have a clue on what movie their cousin was in. They were in the lobby for about an hour when the police asked them why they were just hanging out. They said they couldn't find their cousin and did know what to do. Then about half an hour later, some woman calls and asked if we found 2 missing boys. I told her yes, they were in the lobby with the police and was she going to pick them up. Her reply was classic. She said, "I can get them after midnight if no one shows up." That would be in about 35 to 40 minutes more. Finally, the cousin came out of the theater looking for the boys, now its been 1hour 50 minutes. Then he had the nerve to ask the boys to stay where they were so he could finish watching his movie. The police officer told him that we weren't babysitters and he would have to take his cousins home. He left with the boys and missed the end of his movie. What a shame? NOT!

Get a room, please!
What is it about the theater that makes people want to get physical? Tonight we had a very amorous couple. It's not the first time, we think the family bathroom was "broken in" by a couple. I've had to throw water on teens on some weekends. Not really but I wish. So tonight's couple took their action to the parking lot. I had a person come in and tell me that they were in a Jeep, back windows cracked, at least one foot in the air, and it was rockin'.
Now if I remember correctly, this couple would be on the older side of the spectrum. Interesting..... So then I thought about going outside and breaking it up, but then I was too tired to deal with them. I suddenly remembered the male employee I was working with could do it for me. What a brilliant idea. Then reality hit me like a sour fart. I was working with "bonerman" (described in a former post)! I laughed until I peed my pants sharing my idea with everyone else. Heck, the way I figured it, he'd be outside watching for at least 15 minutes before telling them to stop. I couldn't stand the thought of it.
Other than that, things have been going well. Christmas break for the kids is coming up. That will give me more stories to tell. I'm looking forward to seeing more movies soon. I've already seen all of the shows playing now. Until next time.....

Thanksgiving is over at last
Ah, it's over at last. I don't think I could take it anymore. Schools were out, college kids back home for a visit, crazy people shopping on Black Friday.
Let's start with Wednesday night. New movies came out then because of the Holiday. One of the movies was This Christmas. It is a great movie with drama, comedy, and good music. It has an all black cast with Chris Brown (a hottie to the young folks). This night was busy as ever, we were understaffed because we didn't expect to be that busy. This paticular movie brought in the worst of the worst for the last showing. These kids caused so many problems. I had 911 calling me to let me know that they were getting hang up calls from our pay phone. I looked up and there were the buttheads. I told them if it happened again, I would let the police come out and take them away. Same kids, got into a shoving match in our doorway causing people to walk around them. I had to tell them to stop about 7 times. There were about 5 girls picking on a little boy, they caused him to fall twice. I had to yell at them for picking on him. He was scarred and about 4 years younger than these evil "tweens." I ended the night with calling for a policeman to be in the lobby when the movies got out. There was just two of us employees and about 130 people. 80 of them the trouble makers.
Thursday on Thanksgiving wasn't bad. We were busy with people but most everyone was nice or too tired from eating so much to be mean.
Friday, oh black Friday! I was off work for the first time in a long time. So what did I do? You know, I was at the theater watching movies with friends and laughing at the staff for working so hard. Things went smooth and everyone seemed to like being so busy. My replacement for the night was not the quickest person on earth but at least I didn't have to help. It was nice to sit back and watch.
Saturday was great. Business was nice and steady. No stories to tell. Oh wait, I forgot, I had to make someone leave in which they so informatively told me I was fat. WOW, NEVER HEARD THAT ONE!!! (I am in case your wondering, but it doesn't bother me.)

Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving to all of my faithful readers. I hope this finds you & your family safe and stuffed from eating too much. So after all your shopping and eating is done, you need a break from it all. COME SEE A MOVIE!!!!! I will be more than happy to see all of your smiling faces. This starts our busiest time. From now until mid-January, we will be working non stop. It will be a crazy time, I should be getting hand cramps from typing so much. Carpal Tunnel here I come.
So, I watched Stephen King's The Mist last night. It follows the story almost exactly. The "creatures" are perfect to how they were described. I enjoyed it a lot. I usually don't. You see Stephen is my favorite writer. Not all of his work makes a good movie. Its difficult to put your imagination up on a screen; not that everyone else has the same visions while reading. The only thing I can say is that the ending is different from the story. Not that it's a bad thing, to be honest, I don't know which one I liked better. The story leaves you with a dropped jaw, the movie leaves you with a dropped jaw but with a few slobbers hanging. I left the theater going WOW. It has just enough effects without being cheesy. I would recommend it for sure. Oh yeah, it's Rated R for "refusing teens", yeah!
The other movie I got in today was Hitman. It is an action movie based off of the game by the same name. I have no clue about the game but the movie was good. I liked it. I would recommend it for those looking to get away from the "family" movie. Lots of action, there is even some boobage. Yes I said "boobage". The hitman, only known as 47, is good at being a cold killer. It has a few twists that make you look sideways, but good in the end. And it's Rated R also.
Too bad little ones, need your parents for this one.
I must add that neither movie is so bad that I would try to talk parents out of it. They both are within reason for the rating, yet not so offensive that you would be put off. I plan to see both again. Also starting today were: August Rush, Enchanted, and This Christmas. I plan to watch the rest of these sometime this weekend.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. Eat some turkey for me being that I work the whole time.
See ya at the movies!

Beowulf
This was a waste of my time. I didn't care for the computer graphics. I thought the character of Anthony Hopkins was done so cheesy that it took away from the story. The troll was a acid ate-up skeleton that made no sense. Just when you start to get into the movie, cheesy graphics again. Angelina Jolie was a dragon. Ray somebody was Beowulf, now he had the voice, the body, the acting ability, yet still was missing something. I enjoyed the storyline and the scenery.
I tried to ask people as they left what they thought of it. I would have to say most people liked it. I just might have to see it again. After hearing so many different opinions, I think I can give it another chance. Of course, it will have to wait until I have the time. We have a lot of new movies coming out for Thanksgiving and I have to watch them.
Now that the holiday season is upon us, we will be busy everyday. Hopefully I will get more material to share other than the usual. I get tired of complaining about the dirty messes left behind and the stupid teens. This time of year brings out the better in people (sometimes).
I wish to all of you a happy Thanksgiving and to a special family (the Mosley's) lots of prayers for your daughter.

Fred Claus - not just for kids
I laughed my butt off during this movie. I of course was the only one laughing in some spots but it was funny just the same. I like all of it. It was funny when my daughter looked at me and ask me what a "smurf" was. To be young again. So how do you explain what a smurf is and why there was only one female?
New movies this week are Beowulf and Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. I saw in an interview that Dustin Hoffman said his grandson was freaked out by the way he looked. It's on my list to see on Sunday with my kid.
Nothing big happing yet at the theater. We're getting ready to go "digital" soon. People are still slobs and co-workers are a pain sometimes. SPECIAL THANKS to the person who pointed out that 1-18-08 is going to be titled Cloverfield. I appreciate it, I like the date title better.
That reminds me:
Dane Cook has this routine were he talks about that one "creepy" guy at work. Well, we now have 2 of them. They both stink, are weird and look creepy. One is so into games like DDR that he has tried to "coach" people dancing from the concession stand. The other is a dwarf who has the nick name of "Bonerman" because he walks around the local mall with a boner. It is true, I've seen pictures. Most of the teens around here have made fun of him, and now, he works for us. I can already see the problems. Several employees have made comments how if they see a boner, they are going to report him the "corporate hotline" that is available. I don't know, I think we should just make him look at his wife and that should take care of the problem.
So rumors have it that a couple of managers got into a tift. I think its funny because the one who can't do shit right is the one who was trying to point out other's faults. Look in the mirror sweety, stop blaming others for your short comings. Like she would read this. I guess she has everyone wanting to quit, me included. (Honestly, its true. But then what would I have to talk about?)
Not to mention, need money for the day after sales. Without them, there will be no Christmas this year. I don't have a lot of money to spend, gas prices are killing me. Wow, I am so off topic. Hang in there, the weekend is coming and I should have more to talk about. Have a great day to all!

College hoodlums
So Saturday night was a "movie night" for a guy in college. He and his friends came to the movies. Undecided in which movie they wanted, they stood in the foyer blocking the entry way to one side of the building. Now I'm not complaining about them, they are witty young people who were not rude to anyone. They were so funny at one point. There were some kids not getting in because of the rating and the main hoodlum, Collin, asked about it. They wanted him to "hook" them up, in which Collin replied "I'm not your parent." A classic moment that we all enjoyed. Let's hear it for others who know and follow the rules. Hip hip hooray!
So Collin and his friends were talked into 30 Days of Night by myself and the beautiful Sandy. See Sandy is from Alaska so she was super interested in it. Course, I thought it wasn't the worst I've seen. Collin and his buddies didn't like it. That's what they get for making one of my favorite employees do their welcoming announcement. Oh well, I made my money! College kids, just gotta love them.
The night was full of families seeing either Bee Movie or Fred Claus. It was fun in that things went smoothly and not to many problems. Anything that did happen wasn't worth mentioning. I had a fun night. Customers were fun to talk to and most of the little people were cute and dressed up for a "family date" as I was told by a 3 year old.

Not about the movies
So I come to you as a person who has a life outside of the theater. Not too far outside because I went to see Dane Cook's On the Edge comedy concert. I know, he is in movies, I can't escape it completely. Anywho, it was funny as hell. He did some old stuff, new stuff and stuff to adult to mention. I had a blast. I don't get out very often and enjoyed this night. He was better than I had expected. He is more handsome in person than on the big screen too. Not that I'm into him, but if forced, he's do'able (if you know what I mean).
Afterwards, we went to a party and I enjoyed watching young people act stupid and immature. I felt great knowing that in all my 152 years, I could still outdrink, outplay and outlast these youngin's. I was the survivor of the night. And I got some lip action to boot.
Oh what a night!!!!

Shove and Run: A drunk At the Movies
Here I thought this weekends post was going to be an update of what's coming to the big screen. Heck no!!!! I had some asshole drunk shove me and then run from me. What was I to do? I chased after him. I was sooo pissed off at him that I wanted to catch him and shove his beer can up his butt. I could have too, I was running with the can in my hand. This is how the whole drama unfolded....
I had to do security in 30 Days of Night, (horror vampire movie), because they thought is was going to be full of crazy trouble-making teens. Well, 15 minutes in to the movie, there were only about 56 people in the whole 300 seating auditorium. My boss sent message that I could go home or do another boring job. The movie was not too bad and I probably won't get another chance to see it, so I clocked out, got some popcorn and coke, sat down and was watching the rest of the movie.
During a really quite intense scene, you hear a glass bottle drop and roll downward. I looked over my seat and saw a bunch of people laughing. I was staring into the crowd off and on. Then I heard laughter again from the top section. I walked the stairs and was motioned by a couple of young ladies. I walked over to them and they told me the man 6 seats down was passed out asleep and kept snoring loudly. I asked them where the bottle came from and they said it was his. I could see a beer can in the cup holder and deceided to ask him to leave. Now, hindsight being 20/20, I should have gotten the cop to come into the theater or wait at the door for me....but I was pissed and didn't want to let him sit there any longer. I went over to him and woke him up. I told him to come with me outside the theater. He shoved my arm and figited with his pocket on his sweatshirt. Of course I didn't know what he was doing, going for a knife, gun, drugs, who knows now a days. He got up and followed me out, once outside the doors, he ran like a punk with something to hide. Dumbass me....chaced after him. We ran out side the building, around the corner and then he turned around. He had an amazed look on his face, like he had never seen a fat person run before. The best part was his beer can was in my hand the whole time, (I never thought, I should have thrown it at him). Finally he ran off property and I knew I couldn't leave property without getting in trouble. The chace was over. I was pissed because I don't run. There was no reason for running, hell he was just drunk to my knowledge.
I went back in to finish my movie, which was pretty much over by now, course this fact made me madder. I left, went to get a Margarita (jumbo size) and then home to bed. It took forever to go to sleep. Until next time, drink BEFORE you get to the theater or SHARE.

Why did I get married? What a happy crowd.
Well, let me start here....the movie Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? came out this last weekend. It was a great, fun loving crowd of mostly older couples. I had a couple of young punks come in and then leave because (to quote them), "these people will kick my ass if I ask up!" I only laughed out loud and suggested the local video store. The movie itself is a fun adventure into marriages and communication, or lack there of. The majority of the crowd laughed at the right places and cried during some emotional scenes.
These were some of the greatest customers ever. They were friendly, respectful, and didn't need to be reminded how to act in public. I recommend this movie to anyone wanting to enjoy a grown-up movie. It has a good cast and excellent writing.
Upcoming next....what's new for the screen.

Put your feet down please.
Last night I bet I had to tell at least 20 people to put their feet down. They had them on the armrests of the seats in front of them. They were on the backs of the seats, and even on the tops. Okay, comfort is a necessity when sitting for 2 hours sometimes, but how would you feel if I went to your house and put my dirty shoes or feet on your furniture? I've had people complain that some seats stink. I wonder why?
Another thing, how can two people make a bigger mess than 12? I had to usher last night and had a harder time cleaning up after two adults than I did the other 12 people in the audience.
I sometimes wonder if it is because people are not in their own homes, that they feel they can be as messy as they want to be. I try not to leave a mess. Sometimes you can't help it, popcorn can fall regardless, but wrappers, candies, and personal junk. You'd be surprised by some of the stuff we've found. Here's an example: purses, wallets, phones, hats, jackets, umbrellas, kid's toys, single kid shoe, jewelry, a hearing aid (which I want to give to someone as a gift), even a bra. Yes, a bra: don't ask, I wasn't there at the time it was found. What gets me is how a person can wear a jacket in and leave without it. Most of the time it is colder leaving than arriving. And a bra????

Slow weekend
This is a strange thing to say, but, we had a slow weekend. Not too much to complain about this time. My Friday started with having to throw a couple of kids out of a movie. They were wanting to see Brave One, but she wasn't old enough,(her boyfriend was). So they stepped back and then bought tickets to Dragon Wars (crappy movie by the way). Guess what they did then???? Dumb asses walked into Brave One. They even looked back at me before they entered the theater. Of course, I went into the movie and asked how they got tickets. The boyfriend told me he bought them. I asked "How, I was standing in front of you when you were denied the first time?" He stated that he bought them. I asked to see the tickets and he then confessed to buying for a different movie. I told them they needed to leave. I WAS going to make them see the stupid movie they bought for until he got smart with me. I then told them to think about what they are doing before they do it. I then took the stubs from them and told them to leave the building.
She asked if their parents came back with them would I let them in. I told them yes, but they would have to buy tickets again. They left without any further problems. Why do kids insist on being smart asses when they get caught. They could have just apologized and would not have wasted any money, instead, they run their mouths and I become the punisher. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy kicking kids out for being bad. But, these guys were just plain stupid.

Extra Security Needed...Oh Great!
I stopped by work yesterday to see a movie. I found out that we are going to have extra security for the release of "Resident Evil". This is just great! In other words...We the employees are going to be treated like shit.
Of course as in the past, Friday night will be all the black kids treating everyone like they are shit. They will be shocked to find out we card for rated R movies even though we've done this for a year now. The kids are the same ones, they do this every weekend, they show no respect for anyone. I'm sure I'll be cussed out by them as well as their "parent" (the one they begged outside to get their tickets).
Saturday will be white night. In this I mean that all the kids will be white and treat us the same as the Friday night group. The only exception is the white kids will treat us as if they are better than us. They too will be shocked that we card them. The exception is that they will expect us to let them in because we should. What a joke. HELLO!!!!!
Then all of them will be spending majority of their time in the lobby trying to either sneak a friend in or being loud. The police will tell them to get to their movie but they will only take 10 minutes to do it. Of course they turn around and go right back to the lobby.
I can go on forever about this, but I'll wait until this weekend to give a detailed account of the action. Until then, happy movie watching. By the way, NEVER, EVER, EVER see a horror or thriller movie on opening weekend in the evening. You won't enjoy it.

In the Beginning
In a Midwest town sits a building. Pretty in design, colorful and welcoming to the public. Once inside you pick your pleasure from a selection of 12. Depending on your age, you may not be able to enjoy your pick. This is when the fun begins. Every weekend someone tries to be cute, funny, rude or offensive. Where are you? At the movie theater. I will be sharing with you a variety of experiences and movie reviews.
My background is simple. I've been in the entertainment industry for about 17 years off and on. I've been to conventions and have met several movie stars. I have a huge collection of films and currently have seen every movie playing at the theater I work in.
But my tale is not always about the industry...I want to share with you the hell I sometimes go through with the public. I look forward to you sharing your experiences as well (good & bad). Of course I have to share some reviews also. I hope you enjoy my take of "A Night at the Movies".
